LIGHT Fingered

Source: Performance BMW September 2006

performanceBMW_sep06.jpgWith modern car security systems becoming together, criminals have had to follow with resorting to new methods of stealing cars. In some cases this involves pinching keys to get into a motor with minimum hassle. Thankfully, technology is one step ahead and, thanks to the new biometric immobiliser system from ATRD, no thief can make off with your car whether they have the keys or not.

Unlike traditional immobilisers, the ATY-1 is deactivated by an in-car fingerprint scanner capable of storing prints from as many as 30 people. The system arms itself ten seconds after the engine is switched off and features a two circuit immobiliser so you can disable the starter, ignition and fuel system. Opening a car door or switching the ignition to the ACC position activates the fingerprint scanner, which takes only two seconds to recognize the owner and disarm the immobiliser allowing you to start the car as normal.

The system is the first of its kind, offering a retrofit version of similar fingerprint scanners available on high-end Metes, and is available from sale UK distribute ATRD’s newly-equipped workshop in Coventry. It can also be used on its own or with your existing alarm system for minimum fuss.

Live near a port or border? Be afraid, be very afraid!

Nearly 40 percent of all vehicle thefts occur in or near ports and border communities. Each year more than 200,000 vehicles are exported illegally from the United States. Many of these were stolen in port and border communities, according to NICB. More and more vehicles are being targeted for export by thieves who sneak them out through ports and across borders.
