Prints to stamp out thefts

autoexpress_lrg.jpgTOP security experts have fingered a new way to beat car thieves – they’re launched an immobiliser which deactivates only if it ‘sees’ your prints.

The hi-tech kit puts security back into the hands – literally – of the car’s owner. Unless the gadget scans a finger which matches a print in its memory, the engine won’t start. Automotive Technology Research and Development in Coventry, Warks, which makes the device claims it is a major weapon against car theft.

The unit activates when the driver’s door is opened and up to 30 prints can be stored in the device which takes only two seconds to scan a finger.
